Enzymatic Debridement

Santyl Collagenase Ointment

The gold standard in enzymatic debridement. Santyl selectively removes necrotic tissue while preserving healthy granulation tissue for optimal wound healing.

What Is Santyl Collagenase?

Santyl is an FDA-approved enzymatic debriding ointment containing collagenase, an enzyme derived from Clostridium histolyticum bacteria. It works by breaking down collagen in necrotic tissue, allowing the body to remove dead tissue naturally.

Unlike sharp debridement, Santyl is selective—it only targets necrotic collagen while leaving healthy tissue intact. This makes it ideal for patients who cannot tolerate sharp debridement or for wounds with fragile granulation tissue.
